Resistance of eucalyptus species subjected to frost

The South of Brazil has historically proven to be a region of great importance for the forestry sector. However, the occurrence of frost is one of the main climatic factors limiting wood production and impairing the formation of homogeneous Eucalyptus plantations in this region. Thus, the research aims to evaluate the frost resistance of eucalyptus species with productive potential for the Southern region of Brazil and the effect of seedling hardening on this resistance. Cold acclimation assays and frost simulations are conducted inside growth chambers, specifically FITOTRON-type chambers. It is expected that the results obtained can assist producers and companies in the forestry sector in better adapting the planting location of the evaluated species in frost-prone regions of southern Brazil.
